Create your ideal aesthetic with single-glazed screens
One of the main reasons why single-glazed partitions have proven to be such a hit with our customers is their “barely there” appearance, providing indoor spaces with a fluid transition between rooms. More and more facilities are choosing glass to make their environment appear more open and collaborative. This is why these partitions are often seen in educational facilities and office spaces, promoting an “anyone’s welcome” approach.
A single-glazed glass partition such as this can also promote the spread of natural light throughout your space, keeping things bright and vibrant and reviving a space that was perhaps bland and worn out.
A durable material for dividing spaces
Each of our single-glazed partitions is tested rigorously to make sure that they are safe for installation. We use toughened glass that’s not only strong, but also performs highly in its acoustic rating. Up to 44db of noise can be kept within the glazed walls of your room, allowing meetings to maintain the level of privacy they deserve.
At Glass Interiors, we also make sure that our fire-rated glass excels in its duty of keeping flames contained until they can be fully extinguished. This will help those inside the building to evacuate safely and effectively, minimising the risk of injury.
Our products have earned excellent reviews from our customers, as they are hailed as the perfect option for those looking to transform their indoor space for the better. This is because single-glazed partitions create a more inspiring and contemporary environment to work or even live in!

Single-Glazed Partition FAQs
What sizes do single-glazed partitions come in?
As with any glass panel, the size of a single-glazed partition will depend on the specific product design you choose and how and where you plan to install it.
At Glass Interiors, we use the SG25 system, which is compatible with partitions up to 3200mm tall, and the SG30 system, which allows partitions to be up to 3600mm tall. The thicker the glass, the larger the panel can be, as this improves its structural stability.
Thicker glass also offers a greater line load (force applied per linear metre), with the SG25 system offering up to 0.74kN p/m and the SG30 up to 1.5kN p/m. This is a significant consideration, as the busier the area, the thicker and stronger the glass needs to be.
Individual panels in a single-glazed partition wall are typically around 1000–2000mm wide, as the width shouldn’t exceed the maximum height (e.g. more than 3200mm high). With a narrower width, individual glass panels are also less heavy, so they’re easier to transport and manoeuvre.
With a range of thicknesses from 10mm toughened to 16.8mm acoustic laminate to 17.5mm toughened laminated glass, the Glass Interiors design service can help you create custom single-glazed partitions in the right height, width, and thickness for your needs.
Can I customise single glazing channels or frames?
Yes – when you install one of our single-glazed partition systems, you will have a choice of finishes for the head channels and base channels (plus clear or black gaskets).
These options include satin anodised aluminium for a muted silver finish, brushed brass for a bronze retro look, or a polyester powder coating in your choice of RAL colour.
In a ‘frameless’ system, these elements will have minimal visibility, but it’s helpful to match them to other parts like glass door hardware for a cohesive appearance. Systems with doors can utilise timber or aluminium frames, with black powder coating being a popular selection.
If you would prefer framed single-glazed partitions for a bolder style, you can enquire about RAL painted frames, brushed or polished steel frames, or bright copper and gold frame options. You can also enquire about solid core timber doors if they would suit your needs better than glass doors.
Whatever aesthetic opportunities you’re looking for, we can help you create demountable single-glazed partitions that fulfil your requirements with our design service. Can a single-glazed partition be soundproof?
The thicker a glass partition is, the more it can dampen the transfer of sound from one side of the glass to the other. However, a single-glazed partition will be limited in its sound-reducing capabilities, as the system generally only uses a single layer of glass.
You would need acoustic-rated glass to achieve a minimal level of noise insulation – for example, our single-glazed partitions are available in acoustic laminate from 10.8mm up to 16.8mm, so you can achieve an acoustic rating of up to 44dB (Rw) +/-3dB with one of these systems.
The SG25 system can insulate noise up to 38dB, while the SG30 system can reduce sound transfer up to 44dB. For comparison, whispering would be around 30–40dB and a normal conversation would be around 60dB. This means single-glazed partitions could muffle talking, but some noise would still be audible.
The level of soundproofing also depends on how the partition system is sealed, as any gaps will allow sound to travel through even if the glass is thick enough to hold back most conversational noise. For a higher level of sound insulation, check out our double-glazed partitions.
Can single-glazed partitions be fireproof?
Typically, fire-rated glazing features at least two panes with a fire-resistant interlayer, meaning there are technically three layers combined into a thicker and stronger panel.
However, depending on the system – such as our TG100 fire-rated partitions – either a single or double-glazed structure can be used, while maintaining a slimline look.
While neither the standard SG25 nor SG30 system is fire-rated, it’s possible to use fire-rated glass in screens or doors within this system. Using PYRANOVA® glass, you can achieve a rating of EI30 or EI60, which can help to contain the spread of fire for up to 30–60 minutes.
Generally, single-glazed partitions don’t need to be fireproof, unless they’re installed in certain locations that would make fire integrity a legal requirement. These conditions and specifications can be found in the Fire Safety Building Regulations – compliance is the responsibility of the building owner.
You can find out more about fire-rated glass in our blog, or contact us directly to discuss your needs and we can help you design a fire-resistant glass partition system.
